Flintlock Scouting Club Wins NJ Governor Volunteer Award
On Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM, The New Jersey State Governor’s Office of Volunteerism announced that the Flintlocks, BSA, Inc. was selected as an honoree for the 2024 Volunteerism Awards. The ceremony was livestreamed on the website www.njgovernorsawards.com
This recognition is based on extraordinary volunteer service. From hundreds of nominations, those few that rose to the level of service meriting special recognition in each category were named Honorees and will receive certificates, signed by Governor Murphy.
The Flintlocks, BSA, Inc. is a 501c3 consisting of a group of retired Scouters who support the Patriot’s Path Council (PPC). The Flintlocks are composed of mostly retired adult scouters who dedicate their time and talents to helping the Council camps.
The volunteers serve out of a spirit of altruism, and to help develop youth. Most of the volunteers had children or grandchildren in the Scouts, but continue to serve even after they leave. The Flintlocks craft shop supplied the Council programs with 1,180 craft kits of bird houses, bird feeders, tool boxes, benches, bat houses, and Raingutter Regatta boats.
Every year the Flintlocks provide 300 Pinewood Derby cars to special needs children. The Flintlocks obtain grants, purchase, cut, shape, and sand the cars; the teachers put on the wheels, and the children paint and decorate the cars, then race them.
The Flintlocks recently celebrated their 36th year anniversary of service to the Patriots Path Council. The current membership is 30 active members. The work crews average 6,000 hours of volunteer skilled labor at the camps and council activities every year.
The Flintlocks meet on Thursdays from 8 am to 2 pm at Camp Winnebago, Rockaway, NJ, all year round. Guests are always welcome. Their Facebook page shows photos of their activities.
