AOL to Scouts BSA: Making the Transition Stick
Join our August Council-Wide Roundtable
Did you know that Scouts who attend summer camp are significantly more likely to stay in Scouting long-term?
To help ensure a strong start in their new troop, Arrow of Light (AOL) Scouts should ideally cross over by February or March. This gives them time to bond with their new troop and prepare for summer camp.
But…
How can we complete the AOL program by February?
Can Scouts cross over early and still enjoy Pack events?
What collaboration is needed between Packs and Troops?
Join us this August for a special roundtable designed to answer these questions and more.
What to Expect
Led by Michelle Blanchfield, Fishawack District Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner and District Membership Chair, and supported by council and district leaders, this session will provide:
- A month-by-month roadmap to complete the AOL year by February
- Best practices for effective crossovers and troop integration
- Ideas for cooperative planning between Packs and Troops
- Strategies to retain Scouts through summer camp and beyond

The most powerful way to thank a chartered organization is to provide service.

Seabadge Flash Course 2025: A National Milestone in Patriots’ Waters
In a landmark moment for Sea Scouting across the nation, the second-ever Seabadge Flash Course was successfully held the weekend of June 12–14, 2025, hosted by Patriots’ Path Council. Seabadge is the adult leadership development program that equips adult leaders with the knowledge, resources, and network to effectively lead youth in the nautical environment. The Seabadge Flash Course, a newer condensed format of the traditional multi-weekend Seabadge experience, is designed to make this training more accessible in just one high-impact weekend, The course offers a rich blend of theory and practical application. From charting a course for unit growth to implementing meaningful youth leadership, the weekend was packed with mission-driven instruction, hands-on collaboration, and spirited maritime fellowship.
The course was led by Cav. David N. Tarantino, a seasoned Seabadge graduate, fourth-generation Scouter, and Skipper of Ship 1908 “Rising Phoenix.” Serving as Assistant Course Director was Dr. Noel Guzman. Together, they formed the backbone of a highly experienced and collaborative faculty team, drawn from across Patriots’ Path Council.
The success of the 2025 Seabadge Flash Course set a new benchmark not only for PPC, but for the entire Sea Scout community across the United States. As Cav. Tarantino remarked in his closing words: “We are the stewards of something ancient and noble—the tradition of the sea and the calling to form leaders. This weekend wasn’t just about training; it was about honoring the trust placed in us by those who came before and the youth who sail with us.”
