Archdiocese of Newark 2022 Scout Retreat Weekend

Once again Scout Units are invited to join the annual Scout camping retreat weekend held at the Ross Dock area of the Palisades Interstate Park near the George Washington Bridge in NJ.

The weekend not only encompasses the opportunity for scouts to camp out, but builds community and includes several retreat sessions for the Scouts to grow in their faith.

Sponsored by the Catholic Committee on Scouting, this weekend is an annual favorite for many of our Units.

Popcorn! Popcorn! Popcorn!

The 2022 Popcorn campaign is in full swing. We have Scouts taking part in Show and Sells all over the council. Last year popcorn helped to provide $396K to our local packs, troops, ships, and crews to support their program. If your unit is interested in popcorn there is still time to take part, contact [email protected] for more information. Popcorn makes a great gift and helps to support Scouting at the same time!

Skylands District Roundtable

Hello Scouters of the Skylands District! Your commissioner team is looking forward to welcoming everyone back to another great scouting season. It’s time to get back into the swing of things with our monthly roundtable. These roundtables provide unit leaders with the skill and the will to do what is needed to ensure that every member of every unit has a great Scouting experience.

Please note – the September roundtable date has been moved. Roundtable will be held on Thursday September 8 at Camp Somers.

Due to the Yom Kippur High Holy Day, our October roundtable is also rescheduled to the following Tuesday, October 11, at Camp Somers.

It’s trailer rally time!

  • Bring your trailer – so that you can show off your setup and what has worked best for your troop.
    • For any unit that brings a trailer to display- we ask that you set up in the Camp Somers parking lot no later than 7pm – this will allow for daylight display of trailers.
  • Interested participants can tour trailers and discuss what works and doesn’t with unit volunteers from 7 to 7:30.
  • Roundtable will begin at 7:30 in the Camp Somers dining hall.
  • We’ll have our joint session with Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Cub Scouts and then break out into Cub and Scouts BSA/Venturing sessions
    • In Scouts BSA/Venturing, we will discuss plenty of trailer related information.
  • In the Cub Scout breakout, we’ll cover Cub Scout camping. We will announce location of the Cub Scout breakout session at the joint session.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Register for the NYLT November Course Now

The NYLT November course is just over 2 months away and spots are filling up fast.

Scoutmasters, do you have new youth leaders this year? Do you wish your youth leaders had the training need to run their patrols? Do you wish you could get the patrol method working the way it should?

Well, you’re in good hands when you have your youth leaders sign up and attend this year’s National Youth Leadership Training.

NYLT is a rigorous youth leadership training program that provides skills for life and is designed to benefit and enhance the leadership teams of troops and crews. It’s fun, it’s challenging, and it’s informative.

Openings are still available for the November course. This course is spread out over two weekends (November 4th – 6th and November 11th – 13th).

Both weekends are required to get credit for the course.
