Wood Badge 2023

2023 Wood Badge registration is now live!

Wood Badge is designed to meet the advanced leadership needs of all Scouters, particularly unit level Scouters, such as Cub leaders, Scoutmasters and assistants, Venturing Crew Advisors, Committee Chairs and members. Additionally, Scouters serving at the district and council levels can achieve greater effectiveness through Wood Badge.

To attend a Wood Badge course, individuals must:

Be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America. (Youth 18 and older may attend as long as the appropriate Youth Protection guidelines are followed. They do not need to be registered in an adult leadership role.)

Have completed the basic training courses for their Scouting position.

Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. All participants are required to complete the Annual Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C.

Where: ST13-358-23 will be held on two weekends. You must attend both weekends in their entirety to complete the training.

Fall is the best time to be camping!

Our Council has now had 8 Scouts, BSA and Cub Scout Camporees this month. Almost 1,900 Scouts and more than 1,600 adults and siblings enjoying our camps and great program put on by the volunteer leadership from Fishawack, Pioneer, Raritan Valley and Skylands districts. Special thanks to those volunteers and staff who mad et he events a success.

Merit Badge Workshops Fall 2022

Scouts, ages 11 & up, can earn merit badges at the
Great Swamp OEC or Pyramid Mountain NHA.
Take advantage of a day off from school to complete
most, if not all, of these complicated

Patriots’ Path Council’s Community Service Committee
asks the Packs, Troops and Crews of our council
to assist with the annual drive of
new and unwrapped toys.

 

You can collect toys and donate to an organization of your choice or drop off toys at the following locations where they will be donated to the U.S.M.C’s Toys for Tots Program.

PPC Scout Featured in Scout Life Magazine

Patriots’ Path Council Scout Featured in Scout Life Magazine

Congratulations to Long Valley Tenderfoot Scout Gavin Smith, who is featured in the November 2022 issue of Scout Life magazine.  Gavin is 13 years old and in Troop 436 in Long Valley.  He is included in the SL Headlines section for participating in the 2022 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament where his team, the New Jersey Devils, ranked fifth.

2023 PPC Award Nominations Due This Week!!!

This is a final reminder to submit an award application for deserving Scouts or Scouters who go above and beyond in their dedication to Scouting. Nominations are being accepted for the following awards: Silver Beaver, Trailblazer, Youth Leadership, Alumnus of the Year, and Eagle Scout Hall of Fame. Details on these awards can be found below or on our website.

Deadline for submitting nominations is December 1, 2022. Applications (and lists of past award recipients) are available on the Awards Page of the PPC website or by clicking on the award name below.

 

Silver Beaver Award:  For distinguished and noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered Scouters in any program area within the territory under the jurisdiction of the local council.  (List of past Silver Beaver Award Recipients)

 

Trailblazer Award: Presented to Scouters who have achieved significant accomplishments on a council level over a 24-month period. The accomplishments should be directly related to the Council Vision Statement and Strategic Plan. (List of past Trailblazer Award recipients)

 

Youth Leadership Award: Presented to youth members who have achieved excellence in scholastics, shown outstanding involvement in the community, and demonstrated exceptional dedication and outstanding leadership qualities in the council. (List of past Youth Leadership Award recipients)

 

Council Alumnus of the Year Award:  Scouting Alumni Association’s highest council recognition. The award was established to recognize alumni of the Boy Scouts of America who, over a sustained period of time, have used the skills and values they learned through their association with Scouting to make significant and long-lasting contributions to their local communities through their careers, avocations, and Scouting. (List of past Alumnus of the Year Award recipients)

 

Eagle Scout Hall of Fame:  The Patriots’ Path Council Eagle Scout Hall of Fame Award was established to recognize Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years or longer of having received the Eagle Scout Award, have reached a high level of success in their chosen field. In addition, potential recipients have demonstrated a strong record of volunteer leadership service to the Patriots’ Path Council and their community. Recipients will be announced at the council’s annual meeting on February 27, 2023. The awards (except for the Eagle Hall of Fame Award) will be presented at the 2023 PPC Awards Celebration to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Winnebago Scout Reservation.

Membership & Recruiting

Patriots’ Path Council march to 11,000 youth served

This fall we hope to welcome 2,000 new families to Scouting. September was a great start, we recruited 461 new Scouts and their families, that is more then 100 more then September of 2021. In order to encourage every pack, troop, crew and ship to recruit new youth we have set up an initiative program that can earn each Scout a 10% discount in our Scout Shop. We are also here with resources to help you recruit new Scouts.
