Troop 75 Honors First Responders

To honor local first responders, Scouts BSA Troop 75, Munsee District, recently collected donations through the sale of luminaries.

Troop 75 Committee Chair Dennis Brown and Troop 75 Scoutmaster Orest Hrycak presented the Cranford’s troop donation check to Daniel Gómez Suárez, treasurer for the Cranford First Aid Squad (CFAS) in support of the CFAS service provided to the community during COVID-19 and at all other times.

Arrow of Light Crossover – Virtually

The Why of a Virtual Crossover

· Having reached the highest rank in Cub Scouts, Arrow of Light Scouts deserve the opportunity to become Scouts BSA.

· Delaying crossover until face to face meetings are possible, or until fall, may cause these Scouts to drift away.

· Scouts who attend summer camp with their troop (or other summer activities) are much more likely to stay in Scouting.

· A virtual crossover using Zoom, Skype, Facebook or Google will give AOL Scouts the satisfaction of seeing their friends and being united in crossing over.

· Arrow of Light Scouts who have been stuck at home for weeks will be excited at the prospect of Scouting activities.

· As the troop receives the new Scouts, the senior patrol leader and patrol leaders can begin leading them right away toward earning Scout rank and Tenderfoot.

The How

· Run the ceremony as usual, just without walking over a bridge.

· Invite the troop(s) to attend virtually.  And invite your whole pack to log in to recognize the AOL achievement.

· Since AOLs are registered through December, there is no fee to transfer into the troop.  Simply give the troop a new member application for them to submit to council.

After Crossover

· The Scouts attend virtual meetings with their new troop.

· The virtual meetings can breakout to a New Scout Patrol to focus on earning Scout rank and Tenderfoot.

· The troop can inform families about summer camp plans. Early bird deadline for AOLs crossing over into the Scouts BSA program is June 1.

Virtual Membership Breakfasts Offered

Since we were not able to hold our membership breakfasts in person, volunteers from Patriots’ Path Council’s Membership Committee recorded their presentations on unit membership plans, recruiting resources and best practices, Webelos/AOL recruiting and Lions recruiting.

Links to each presentation are available here.

Scouts BSA Brand Guidelines

As we come out of our current situation and reach out to recruit new youth, it’s important to remember that at all levels, from our members and volunteers to our professional staff, we take the brand and trademark rights of all organizations seriously and have worked proactively to differentiate our unique program offerings.

That of course includes the Scouts BSA program, so when referring to that program in any local council or unit materials — including recruiting fliers, announcements, promotional materials, social media posts, and beyond — be sure to read this PDF and use the details in this infographic for the right way to go about it.

Relationships Committee Seeks Members

Are you affiliated with a school, service club, religious organization or special needs group as well as Scouting?

The Relationships Committee is looking for individuals who are passionate about these organizations as we look to build stronger and better relationships for Scouting.

The primary objectives for the Relationships Committee are:

  • Establish and execute collaborative relationships and support needs plans with schools, service organizations, religious, special needs and Venturing charter organizations
  • Enable strong partnerships between charter organizations and sponsored units. e.g., through service projects, community events, etc.
  • Help charter organizations better understand Venturing and help facilitate new Venturing opportunities where there is interest
  • Identify and inform potential charter organizations of the value of the Scouting program

As a committee, we hope to:

  • Encourage community organizations to use the Scouting program
  • Conduct district relationships conferences for heads of chartered organizations and chartered organization representatives
  • Share information with other district leaders about how to work more effectively with various types of organizations
  • Promote the religious emblems program
  • Act in close liaison with council leadership to maintain or regain Scouting access to schools

The committee holds four quarterly meetings a year, and separate action meetings with partners as needed.

Pack’s Flags Project Salutes Area Heroes

Here’s another great example of the Scout spirit thriving in this unprecedented time. Cub Scout Pack 513 in Morristown is proud of its Scouts for their recent efforts to show support and thanks to the local healthcare and public safety professionals for their brave dedication and commitment to the community during the COVID-19  outbreak.

Ten-year-old Callie Danysh, with help from her mom, Andrea, and her entire den, led the effort to create 500 support flags placed at various locations including Morristown Medical Center, local police stations and firehouses in Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains, as well as the Morris County Courthouse.  With inspiring messages and pictures on each flag, Callie’s project fulfilled her Cub elective service project “Build My Own Hero” and she called the project “ Flags of Gratitude.”

According to Callie’s mom Andrea,  “She wanted them to recognize how much they are loved and appreciated in this community. Positivity and smiles are, too, contagious.”

This young Scout could not stay home without doing something within her means to help make a difference during this challenging time. Pack 513 and the Danysh family are also raising funds and food for hospitals and the Interfaith Food Pantry.
