2022 Spring Membership Drive Video

In 2022, we will be working with all of our Scouting units to ensure that Scouting in all of our communities is more VISIBLE, more INVITING and more FUN!

Believe it or not, one of the most common questions we get is “Where is Scouting today?” The key to showcasing Scouting and growing excitement to be a Scout or to support Scouting is to be as visible, inviting, and fun as you possibly can.

In this video we talk about how to use the spring to catapult your spring membership drive to new levels.

PPC Adventure Programs for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA

Scouts BSA Program Opportunities

Merit Badges –

  • During the spring we offered a variety of merit badges to Scouts. These included Astronomy, Automotive Maintenance, Electricity, Electronics, Engineering (twice), Plumbing, and Programming.  Almost all merit badge opportunities were sold out and feedback from counselors and participants was excellent!
  • Over the summer we offered Personal Fitness in two separate tracks so Scouts can get a head start on their ninety-day fitness program before they return to school in the fall.
  • In the fall we will have approximately 20-25 merit badge offerings, some of which are already open on our web page.
  • Scouts and adult leaders should check frequently to see what’s new.

Cub Scout Program Opportunities –

  • At Camp Wheeler in September through December we have scheduled various opportunities for Cub Packs to sign up for BB guns, Archery, Knots and Compass on Saturdays.
  • We also plan on presenting Stargazing, Rocketry and Bird Study and other adventure programs in the fall.

Check our web page for the various Cub Scout program opportunities to be held at Camp Wheeler, Camp Somers Winnebago Scout Reservation and other venues. Additional programs will be added as scheduling is finalized.

Patriots’ Path Council Cub Scout Wins Scout Life Reading Contest

Congratulations to AOL Scout Constantin Bellmann of Pack 182 in Warren for winning first place in the 2021 national Scout Life Reading Contest. Constantin was featured in the May 2022 issue of Scout Life Magazine and was the recipient of a $100 Scout shop gift card. Constantin wrote a 500-word book report on one of his all-time favorites, The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart.

Constantin says the book reminds people to use their talents for good and to help people instead of harming them. “This book is about friendship, loyalty, honesty, truth and perhaps the most important – kindness. We are all unique and we all have a gift, but we need to work together to achieve greatness and make the world a better place.” Constantin will continue his Scouting Journey in Scouts BSA Troop 228 in Warren and hopes to achieve his Eagle Rank.

Venturing Officers Association Elections Planned

The Venturing Officers Association was created late last year with a temporary set of officers. In order to formally establish a slate of officers that will go on to serve a one-year term, the Patriots’ Path Council VOA will hold elections on May 10, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at the PPC Service Center in Cedar Knolls.

A single, transferable “ranked” voting system will be established, providing each crew president with the ability to cast a vote on behalf of the crew contingent present for the candidates of their choosing. Crew presidents (or their designees), along with the crew contingent, must be present at the meeting in person or virtually.

To be eligible for office, Venturers must be registered in the Patriots’ Path Council, not turn 21 before their term ends (i.e., May 31, 2023), and must have approval from their crew advisor. In addition, a “statement of intent” must be submitted via an online form.

We hope to have a good turnout at the May 10 meeting and we wish good luck to all who are running! For updates on the election process and other VOA endeavors, please follow our Instagram (@ppcvoa). All inquiries should be directed to Michael Conlon, the VOA’s advisor ([email protected]).
